Persistent rain forced Lancashire’s Royal London One-Day Cup tie with Warwickshire to be abandoned as a ‘No Result’ after only fifty deliveries were possible at Stanley Park in Blackpool. Both teams receive one point from this North Group match.
A short shower had delayed the start, reducing the match to 49 overs per side, but Keaton Jennings and Alex Davies wasted little time in getting the scoreboard moving after Warwickshire had put Lancashire in to bat, scoring 50 from the first 49 balls.
Jennings struck the first of his four boundaries when clipping Olly Stone through square leg and he next drove Keith Barker straight before two thick edges both flew high over the slips to the ropes at third man off consecutive Stone deliveries in the fourth over.
Not to be outdone Davies, who got off the mark with a back foot drive to the cover boundary off Stone, then struck three consecutive fours off Barker in the seventh over to give Lancashire a flying start.
Having opened with consecutive century partnerships of 175 and 105 in the previous two Royal London Cup matches, the signs were ominous for the visitors before Davies pulled Henry Brookes’ second delivery hard to deep mid-wicket only to find the safe hands of Aaron Thomason and depart for 22 off 22 balls.
Karl Brown made his way to the middle to join Jennings (23 not out off 28 balls) but before the next ball could be bowled rain arrived to force the players off the field just after midday.
It continued to rain steadily from that point until play was finally abandoned at 4.50pm.
