Defeat for Second XI against Derbyshire

Lancashire Second XI were beaten by seven wickets in their 50 over trophy match against Derbyshire at Northern Cricket Club.

The Red Rose, captained by Haseeb Hameed won the toss and elected to bat first.

Opener Rob Jones fell without scoring in the second over and was followed by Hameed (11) shortly after, both to veteran bowler Mohammad Azharullah who finished with 3 for 33 from his 10 overs.

When Shivnarine Chanderpaul was caught for 11, Lancashire were struggling on 57/4, but useful knocks from Josh Bohannon and Sam Oldham (both 25) came in the middle order.

SCORECARD

However the home side continued to lose regular wickets and stumbled to 91/7, before Toby Lester (26), Liam Hurt and Jack Morley (both 24*) took Lancashire to 172/9 from 50 overs.

The Red Rose hunted early wickets with the ball, but it never materialised as Derbyshire openers James Kettleborough and Harvey Hosein put on 112 for the first wicket, to take the game away from the hosts.

When Morley dismissed Kettleborough for 51 and Hurt bowled Thomas Wood for just three, Lancashire had brief hope with the overs remaining ticking down.

But the damage had been done as the visitors reached their target with three overs remaining, Hosein finishing unbeaten on 71.
