Lancashire take control of Second XI Roses clash
Match Report: Lancashire v Yorkshire, Second XI Championship, Day One
Lancashire skittled out Yorkshire for just 75 to take control of the Roses clash in the Second XI Championship.
Liam Hurt claimed a superb return of 5-17 before the batsmen took over, finishing day one in Southport on 266-3.
Hurt put his side firmly in the driving seat by knocking over Yorkshire’s top three early on, bowling openers Lees and Hodd before trapping Anjam LBW to leave the visitors reeling on 17-3.
The White Rose never recovered, with a top score from Hodd of just 16. Danny Lamb claimed three wickets and Josh Bohannon chipped in to have Birkhead caught behind by Brooke Guest, one of four victims for the Lancs’ wicketkeeper.
Rob Jones ran out Azeem Rafiq to claim the other Yorkshire wicket before taking centre stage with the bat, hitting 12 fours in his knock of 76.
He and Karl Brown had nearly taken the Red Rose past their rivals’ total before Brown fell for 35 with the score on 72. Jones and Steven Croft then added another 100 runs before the opener fell, caught behind by Birkhead off Wainman.
Croft was dismissed by Logan for 38 in the next over, but Bohannon and Guest put another good stand together and took the league leaders to a commanding lead of 191 by the close of play.
