Cricket Expo: Workshops

Saturday 29 February 

Club Governance, Engaging People & Volunteers (11:30am – 12:15pm)
Chris Gunn - Lecturer in Sport Business Management, University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN)

Currently undertaking a PhD into the governance of cricket clubs at grassroots level, Chris will deliver a workshop sharing ideas around running your club with openness and transparency, pinpointing techniques to engage people, particularly volunteers. This will be contextualised to cricket, in line with Sport England, ECB and will explore some of the tools that can be used to engage people, such as social media.

Women & Girls' Cricket (1:00pm – 1:45pm)
Jen Barden – Women & Girls Development Manager, Lancashire Cricket Foundation

An interactive workshop that will provide you with the framework to start a women or girls programme at your club. There will be opportunity for clubs already on their journey to develop plans in the short and long term, with hints and tips, along with an overview of the women and girls pathway across Lancashire and the North West. The workshop is aimed at anyone wanting more knowledge on coaching female players, developing a women’s or girls’ section and those wanting to pick up the latest information on the women's game in Lancashire.

An opportunity to see behind-the-scenes of the now iconic UA92 Players & Media Centre at Emirates Old Trafford. Walk through the players' dressing rooms and get a taste of the environment where today’s players train and prepare to be at their very best every time they take the field wearing the Red Rose.

Junior Cricket Forum (10:45am – 11:30am)

Chris Laker – Junior Head Coach (Didsbury Cricket Club)

Helping to develop junior cricket throughout the county, join Dan Pilling and James Cutt in an open floor forum covering everything from pathway cricket, junior formats and the ECB’s new Dynamos Cricket programme. They’ll be joined by Chris Laker (Junior Head Coach at Didsbury CC) to share best practice and provide first-hand feedback on how Didsbury have embraced and developed new and existing programmes and evolved into one of the biggest junior sections in the county.

Play-Cricket (12:30pm – 1:15pm)

Groundsmanship (2:00pm – 2:45pm)
Matt Merchant – Head Groundsman, Emirates Old Trafford

Lancashire’s very own Head Groundsman Matt Merchant will take part in an interactive forum taking questions from the floor about the many challenges faced by Groundsmen across the county. Hosted by Warren Hegg, Matt will pass on the knowledge of over 30 years of experience at Emirates Old Trafford, giving all in attendance hints and tips on preparing the best possible wickets, outfields and overall conditions throughout clubs in the county.
