Lancashire’s Second XI bounced back to win the second of their two T20 matches in a day away to Derbyshire after falling to a narrow defeat in the opener.

Batting first in match one, the hosts ran up a total of 160-4, with captain James Kettleborough top scoring with an unbeaten knock of 48. James Faulkner was the pick of the Red Rose’s bowlers, the Australian quickie taking 2-26 from his four over spell.

Aaron Lilley and Karl Brown gave Lancs a good start with an opening stand of 56, but after the openers fell in quick succession, followed swiftly by Faulkner, the home side edged ahead.

Brooke Guest and Danny Lamb kept Lancashire in the hunt with a partnership of 44, but further wickets disrupted the momentum and Lancashire were four runs short after their 20 overs, with Guest not out on 39.

Lancs batted first in match two, with Brown dominating an opening stand of 86 with Liam Livingstone. Brown fell for a brilliant 74 off just 36 deliveries, crashing 12 fours and three sixes, and then watched on from the side lines as Livingston and Faulkner continued to score rapidly.

Livingston eventually fell for a 61 that featured three fours and five maximums, but Faulkner stuck around to finish on 46 not out as Lancs posted an excellent score of 211-3.

Derbyshire kept up with the required rate in the opening overs, but Lancashire regularly picked off the home side’s wickets to stay in control.

Liam Hurt’s catch to dismiss Anuj Dal for 40 off the bowling of Danny Lamb with 45 needed from just over three overs proved to be crucial, with the hosts losing momentum and subsiding to a 20-run defeat.

Hurt returned the best figures with 3-30 from his four overs, while Matt Parkinson’s leg spin picked up two wickets for 32.
