Lancashire Second XI v MCC

Lancashire’s Second XI had to settle for a share of the spoils in their latest double header of T20 games against MCC Young Cricketers at Westhoughton Cricket Club.

After winning the toss and electing to bat in the first match, the Red Rose ran up a total of 132/7, thanks in the main to 66 from Rob Jones. Batting at number three, Jones hit five fours in his 52-ball stay and faced up to Lancashire team mate Liam Hurt, who finished with 2/20 for the MCC.

Tom Bailey was the star of the show as Lancashire dismissed MCC for 96 to claim victory by 36 runs. He struck in his first and second overs to reduce the visitors to 23-2, and they never fully recovered with Bailey finishing with the excellent figures of 5/15 after claiming the last two wickets in his final over.

Haseeb Hamed was one of three changes for the second outing, but it was one of the other newcomers in the shape of Calum Turner who made the most of their call-up.

Turner’s 52 helped Lancashire reach 138/5 after they called correctly and batted first again, with the opener being run out off the final ball of the innings following a partnership of 59 with Luke Procter.

MCC made a rapid start to their run chase until Kyle Jarvis took the first of his two wickets to bring an opening stand of 65 to a halt.

Lancashire took wickets at regular intervals to leave MCC needing 13 off the final over. Danny Lamb dismissed Fynn Hudson-Prentice and Mitchell Renwick with his first and third deliveries, but Luke Jones struck a six before squeezing MCC home with a single off the last ball for a three-wicket victory that sent Lancashire to just their third T20 defeat of the season so far.
