Lancashire Cricket Women complete five wicket win at Notts

Lancashire Women recorded their second victory of the season with a five wicket win away to Nottinghamshire at Welbeck Cricket Club on Sunday.

The win takes the Red Rose up to second place in the Royal London Women’s One-Day Cup and there was even more cause for celebration as Kate Cross claimed her 100th senior county wicket, before Emma Lamb past 2,000 county career runs, during the convincing victory.

Captain Eve Jones won the toss and elected to field first, but Notts openers Sonia Odedra (28) and Georgie Boyce (50) made a good start, putting on 56 for the first wicket before Lamb (2/26) bowled the former.

Boyce reached her half century with the score 119-3, but her departure, caught off the bowling of Sophie Ecclestone, sparked a collapse with the home side losing five wickets for 11 runs.

Ecclestone ripped through the middle order to claim figures of four for just 16.

An unbeaten ninth wicket stand of 22 saw Notts finish on 152-8 from their 50 overs, a superb effort from the visitors bowling attack.

Lancashire made the perfect start to their run chase, openers Jones and Lamb reaching 84 without loss from the first 20 overs.

The runs continued to flow for the pair as Lamb went past her half century, before she was dismissed for 70 - but with the score on 113, the damage had already been done.

Eve Jones departed for 43, trapped lbw and the Red Rose then lost Ellie Threlkeld (2), Cross (0) and Ecclestone (4) in quick succession.

But, Shachi Pai (14*) and Rachel Dickinson (5*) steered their side home in the 40th over, to complete a comfortable win for Lancashire.
