Day One

Warwickshire batsman Andy Umeed hit an unbeaten 90 on the opening day of Lancashire Second XI's three-day Championship clash at the Edgbaston Foundation Sports Ground.

Lancashire Captain Simon Kerrigan won the toss and elected to field but the Warwickshire opening batsmen played nicely and put on a stand of 102 for the first wicket before all-rounder Luke Procter trapped Banks lbw in the 20th over.

Number three batsman Pollock was the next man to fall as Toby Lester picked up his first wicket of the day to leave Warwickshire 123/2.

Two further wickets fell in quick succession with Lamb and Mellor the batsmen to fall with Danny Lamb and Luke Procter striking with Warwickshire 143/4.

Andy Umeed went to his half century but wickets continued to fall around him. Harrison (14) and Panayi (13) fell to Liam Hurt and then Procter who took his third wicket but it was the seventh wicket partnership that hurt Lancashire in the evening session.

Thornton (40) supported Umeed well in the final session of the day and frustrated Lancashire before Liam Hurt dismissed Thornton, Chris Wright and then Matt Parkinson took his first wicket late on as Warwickshire closed the opening day on 278/9 from 77 overs.

In reply, Calum Turner (1) and Rob Jones (5) were both dismissed early to leave Lancashire in trouble on 16/2 in the fifth over.

Luke Procter joined opener Haseeb Hameed and they helped recover the Lancashire innings. The pair put on a 50 partnership in the latter stages of the morning session.

The pair both brought up their half centuries but it was Hameed (71) who was dismissed in the 45th over to leave Lancashire 178/3.
