Yorkshire vs Lancashire - Match Drawn

Day One

On a bright but breezy morning Lancashire won the toss and decided to bat before being reduced to 14-2 with both wickets to James Wainman.

However by lunch the decision was somewhat justified as they had reached 92-2 from 35 overs with Jones unbeaten on 48 and Procter unbeaten on 39.

The afternoon session produced a further 2 wickets but, again, chances went begging for Yorkshire. Procter took his contribution to 62 from 124 balls with 9 fours and his partnership with Jones had stretched to 128 from 267 balls before he was caught behind from the bowling of Jared Warner.

Jones and Guest added 59 from 85 balls before the former was bowled by James Wainman for 93 from 185 balls including 14 fours and a six. Tea arrived with Lancashire 245-4 with 32 overs remaining.

Guest was caught at cover for 67 (116 balls, 8 fours) to give Wainman his 5th wicket and he finished with 5-79 from 22 overs. Lilley blasted a quickfire 36 from 27 balls (6×4; 1×6) and a last wicket partnership of 32 enabled Lancashire to reach 350 when they were all out in the penultimate over of the day.

Day Two

Starting the day having dismissed Lancashire for 350 last night,

Harry Brook added 82 for the 1st wicket with skipper, Jonny Tattersall but the latter was caught behind for 35 from 69 balls. This brought Tom Kohler-Cadmore to the crease but his stay was short lived as he too was caught behind without scoring.

Harry Brook was joined by Eliot Callis and they were together at lunch as we had reached 134-2 from a very creditable 42 overs. Harry reached his 50 from 87 balls with 7 fours and was 75 no at lunch. Shortly after lunch Callis was bowled for 25 and was replaced by Ryan Gibson – he made 23 from 26 before being caught at 2nd slip.

At this juncture Brook was 99 no from 148 balls (12 fours and a six) and he reached his ton the next ball with his 13th four. His 5th wicket partner was Jordan Thompson and together they added 128 from 139 balls before, on the penultimate ball prior to tea Harry was stumped for a tremendous 161 from 220 balls with 15 fours and 5 sixes, one of which removed several roof tiles from directly above our heads in the scorebox.

Jordan had reached his 50 from 45 balls with 6 fours and a six and at tea he was 62 no from 67 balls. After tea he and Josh Shaw shared a partnership of 116 when Kerrigan had him caught at slip for “a run a ball” 127 (11 fours and a six).

The day ended with Shaw reaching his half century from 100 balls and we closed 463-6, a lead of 113 with a minimum of 96 overs available tomorrow.

Day Three

Resuming with a lead of 113 Yorkshire extended that to 235 before declaring at 585-8.

Josh Shaw took his score to 89 before being bowled by Kerrigan and James Wainman ended 56 no from 53 balls with 7 fours and a six.

Wainman continued his fine, personal, game by striking in the 1st over to have Brown well taken at slip by Kohler-Cadmore and his 7th wicket of the game arrived with 2 balls left before lunch when Jones was caught behind – at Lunch Lancashire were 20-2.

Immediately post lunch Jack Shutt was introduced to the attack and he struck in his 4th over to have Turner lbw for 11. Skipper, Tattersall, came on to form a double spin attack and he bowled Guest for 23.

Lamb joined Procter and at tea they were unbeaten – Procter 42 no and Lamb 26 no with Lancashire 119-4, still 116 adrift. After tea they took their partnership to 102 from 137 balls when Lamb was caught behind in Jordan Thompsons 1st over and in his next over he had Lavelle lbw to leave Lancashire at 169-6.

The last hour started but without further success in the next 8 overs “hands were shaken” and the match ended in a draw.

Yorkshire 13 points Lancashire 11 points
