2ND XI: Lancashire v Warwickshire: Report
After battling the elements for three days – rain, sleet, snow and a bitterly cold wind, plus a very strong Warwickshire second XI, the championship game at Emirates Old Trafford ended in a tense draw, with the home county sharing eighteen points in front of a sparse crowd.
Three declarations, two from the visitors, set Lancashire to score 341 in 84 overs for victory. The weather soon put an end to all thoughts of chasing down that total and Warwickshire’s bowlers chipped away at the batsmen, taking wickets regularly.
Tom Smith held firm for over three and a half hours in making an unbeaten 69 and his seventh wicket partnership of 97 with Arron Lilley, who contributed 41 not out, was largely instrumental in frustrating Warwickshire.
