Buttler retained by Mumbai Indians for IPL

Buttler retained by Mumbai Indians for IPL

Lancashire wicket keeper Jos Buttler has been retained by Mumbai Indians and will play in the IPL next year.

Buttler played 14 games for the Mumbai Indians last year in his first experience of the IPL. The competition will run from 5 April to 21 May in 2017.

The twenty six year old, speaking after the IPL last year said, "This is the ninth edition of the IPL and, for me, English players have been missing out for a long time. There are plenty of cricketers over here who are fantastic Test match players as well. I think it is an old-fashioned view that if you come to the IPL then your Test career is done.

"Playing against the best players in the world and sharing dressing rooms with them, it gives you confidence that you’re playing in that environment.

"It was everything I expected it to be and more. Meeting players that you idolise and have so much respect for, and being coached by Ricky Ponting. All these things are very surreal.

“I learnt some great lessons about not just cricket but being in new environments and spending a long time in India.

"You come up against situations you’ve been in before and play against bowlers you’ve played against - different wickets. All that kind of thing really shows that experience does help your cricket.

“I know it’s always complicated for English players with it clashing with our season. But if that chance does arise, I’d recommend it."

Barry Turner-Newall

This is farcical. Butler needs CC cricket to improve his Test performances not more smash bang wallop. Strauss & co are absolutely clueless.

Frank Lennon

Does he have any sort of contract with Lancashire?

John Traynor

This solves Lancs' wicket-keeper conundrum. Alex Davies has the gloves.
