England complete ODI series victory over Bangladesh

England complete ODI series victory over Bangladesh

Lancashire wicket keeper Jos Buttler led England to a 2-1 ODI series victory in Chittagong after a four wicket victory over Bangladesh.

The hosts were sent in to bat by England and Bangladesh openers Tamim Iqbal (45) and Imrul Kayes (46) punished anything loose to put on 80 for the first wicket to give them the perfect platform for a big score.

Both opening batsmen were dismissed with Kayes being caught off the bowling of Rashid and then Iqbal off Ben Stokes.

Mahmudullah fell in the same fashion in Rashid’s next over, Jonny Bairstow this time taking the catch before Sabbir Rahman and Mushfiqur Rahim responded with a 54-run stand in eight overs with Bangladesh well placed on 176/3.

England, needing wickets, found them. Rashid took his second wicket as Rahman was caught behind by Buttler, before Hasan and Hossain were dismissed by Ali and Rashid (4/43) again, his fourth wicket of the innings.

The hosts recovered well Rahim (67*) and Mosaddek Hossain (38*) as Bangladesh posted a competitive score of 266/7 from their 50 overs.

England started positively with James Vince (32) and Sam Billings hitting early boundaries for the visitors before the former was trapped LBW by Hossain.

Billings (62) and Ben Duckett (63) put on a second wicket partnership worth 64 before England were reduced to 171/4 with Bairstow and then Duckett departing in quick succession.

Ben Stokes and Buttler (25) rebuilt the innings before England once again, lost two wickets, again in quick time, as the Lancashire wicket keeper and Moeen Ali were dismissed to leave the visitors on 236/6 and the game still in the balance.

Stokes (47) hit two sixes and Chris Woakes sealed the win with a glorious straight six with 13 balls to spare.
