England v Pakistan Investec Test Day One Highlights
Misbah-ul-Haq gave England a lot to think about on Day One of the Investec Test at Lord’s, with a youthful display which saw Pakistan finish the day on 282-6.
England could have had the perfect start during a glorious day at Lord’s with a close LBW shout in the first over against Shan Masood. Under pressure, the Pakistan cricket duo Mohammad Hafeez and Shan Masood picked up the pace and hit a few easy balls from Jake Ball and were 38-0 in the 12th over.
It wasn’t until a beautiful ball from Chris Woakes – caught by Jonny Bairstow brought the Pakistan resistance to a halt and England moved into the ascendancy. By the end of the 16th over, Pakistan were 51-2, with Chris Woakes and Jonny Bairstow called into action again after a Hafeez mishit – a routine catch for Bairstow. Afraid of missing out, Jake Ball also wanted in on the action and brought Ali to his knees following a wonderful ball in which resulted in a LBW call.
…And then Misbah stepped in...
As Pakistan were on the ropes with 77-3, they were looking for something special - and boy did they get it. At 42 years old, not many people expected to see the Pakistan skipper reach a century – and even less predicted what happened next…10 press ups.
Pakistan completed the first day at Lord’s on 282-6 with Misbah reaching 110 not out and England will now look to pick up the pace on Day two – targeting a few early wickets to restrict Pakistan to around the mid- 300 mark.
