Giles reacts to Emirates T20 Final defeat to Yorkshire

Ashley Giles was disappointed that his Lancashire Lightning side couldn’t win the Emirates T20 trophy for the first time but was pleased with the squad’s preparation ahead of the upcoming season.

Giles praised George Edwards in particular after taking 1/23 in the opening semi-final against the UAE before taking 3/23 in the final against Yorkshire Vikings.

“Edwards was fantastic in both games,” said Giles.

“The spinners bowled well as a unit and even Luis Reece coming in at the top of the order in the second game, he did himself a lot of good.

“This is still a young, developing T20 side. Considering we’re the T20 champions, we’ve got a lot of headroom and scope for development.

Giles added, “It was a good day. Ultimately, we are still in preparation mode, so we are very lucky to have played Yorkshire twice in the last week, in a two-day game and here in a T20.

“Unfortunately, we came out on the wrong end of it. We got ourselves in a good position with the ball, but couldn’t get over the line with the bat.

“The UAE and Yorkshire games will be great preparation for us going into the NatWest T20 Blast from May.

“Both sides got shut down after the first 10 overs. It happened to Yorkshire and the same thing happened to us. You’re always trying to win games, particularly against Yorkshire, but we move on.

“We’ve seen some decent individual performances and we’re looking forward to our final two-day game starting on Monday”.

Lancashire are back in action on Monday in a two-day game against the UAE which will take place at the ICC Academy.
