Lancashire Trio Visit Dubai College

Lancashire Trio Visit Dubai College

LANCASHIRE’S Cricket Director and Head Coach Ashley Giles and players Simon Kerrigan and Tom Bailey took time out of their busy training schedule to visit Dubai College and take part in a coaching session with pupils earlier today.

The Lancashire squad are part way through their pre-season tour of the United Arab Emirates, where they take part in the Emirates T20 competition tomorrow, and the Red Rose, in partnership with the Club’s official kit supplier Kukri Sports, gave a coaching masterclass to pupils from the college, which has a reputation for sporting excellence in Dubai.

The College, whose playing kit is also provided by Kukri, also has a music hall named after Sir Maurice Flanagan the founder of Emirates, the naming rights partner of Emirates Old Trafford.

The day began with the college’s under 15s cricket team, who enjoyed a coaching session from ex-England international and Ashes winner Giles alongside Lancashire bowlers Bailey and Kerrigan.

The session will stand the youngsters in good stead for their visit to Sri Lanka next month where they will take on local school teams.

The session was led by Clint Birkenshaw, Head of Cricket at the college, who said: “It’s a great opportunity and a privilege to have Lancashire County Cricket Club here at the college. The lads have been really looking forward to it. Ashley, Tom and Simon were hands on and took over my session, which was amazing. They all loved it.”

Ashley Giles said: “It was a pleasure to meet the pupils and to coach them prior to their trip to Sri Lanka. We wish them well.”

Danielle Jordan-Taft from Kukri added: “It’s fantastic that we are able to provide young people with such a unique experience of being taught by Lancashire County Cricket Club’s players and coaching staff. The pupils at Dubai College were delighted to be given the opportunity to learn from some of the Red Rose’s finest.”

The Lancashire trio then took part in a questions and answers session with the pupils ahead of their preparation for the Emirates T20 tournament on Friday, where they will sport their brand new Kukri manufactured 2016 NatWest T20 Blast playing kit.
