Lightning meets Thunder at Emirates Old Trafford
It will be a case of Lightning following Thunder at Emirates Old Trafford on Friday 29 July when supporters get their first glimpse of Lancashire Thunder in action prior to the NatWest T20 Blast fixture between Lancashire Lightning and Birmingham Bears.
Kia Super League team, Lancashire Thunder, captained by England wicketkeeper Sarah Taylor, will take on Loughborough Lightning in a warm-up match as they prepare for their inaugural league campaign which gets underway the following Sunday against Western Storm.
Taylor added: “We are all really excited to be playing at Emirates Old Trafford and we hope as many people as possible come to the ground and cheer us on.
“Personally, I’m delighted to be representing Lancashire and cannot wait for the Kia Super League season to start.”
Thunder will also feature fellow England internationals Kate Cross, who was the first girl to graduate from the Lancashire Academy, and Danni Wyatt.
The match, which starts at 1pm, will precede the NatWest T20 Blast Champions’ final group game of their campaign.
Supporters who purchase tickets for the Birmingham Bears fixture, which gets underway at 6:30pm, will receive free access to the Thunder fixture.
The Club will put on a vast range of activities in its renowned Fan Village for this fixture and are encouraging supporters to watch both games.
Lancashire’s Chief Executive Daniel Gidney said: “We really want our supporters to get behind Lancashire Thunder this year and we are delighted to be hosting their first warm-up match before the NatWest T20 Blast fixture against Birmingham Bears.
“With thrilling action on the pitch and live music and entertainment off it, NatWest T20 Blast match days at Emirates Old Trafford are fun for all the family, so why not make a day of it and watch both our women’s and men’s teams in action?”
The Club is planning an exciting range of activities involving Thunder, the women’s Kia Super League team, and Lightning, the men’s reigning NatWest T20 Blast Champions, this summer. More details will be announced soon.
