Amy Satterthwaite to join LCB Women in build up to ICC Women's World Cup

LCB Women, the Red Rose County’s first team for Women, have been given a further boost as they prepare for their Royal London One Day Championship campaign with the news that New Zealand star Amy Satterthwaite will be joining the squad this summer.

Satterthwaite had a memorable 2016 which included a stint at Emirates Old Trafford as captain of Lancashire Thunder in what proved to be a record breaking year for the left hander.

She became the first female player to score three consecutive ODI centuries in New Zealand's 5-0 series win over Pakistan and finished the year with an astonishing 853 international runs to her name. Incredibly she then added a fourth ODI hundred in the first match of the Australia series to join Kumar Sangakkara as the only two players to have scored four consecutive hundreds in that format of the game.

A top order left hand bat and right arm off spin bowler Satterthwaite also took on the captaincy of her country for the last game of the Pakistan series whilst regular skipper Suzie Bates was rested.

The news is another positive for a squad that has been bolstered over the winter by the arrival of England Academy player Eve Jones and England spinner Alex Hartley who has returned to her home county after a spell away.

With the progression of Emma Lamb into the England senior squad over the winter, Ellie Threlkeld's development in the England Academy and the emergence of Sophie Ecclestone last summer as a full international alongside Kate Cross, head coach Dan Atkinson is excited about the 2017 campaign.

Atkinson said: "We have worked really hard with the whole squad so far this winter and made some really strong additions to it to challenge in the top division in both formats. It is really exciting that a player of Amy's quality has agreed to join us to strengthen our batting order even further. Amy has had an incredible twelve months and we really can't wait for her to join up with the squad, not only to offer stability at the top of the order but also to add her invaluable experience to such an exciting crop of players."

Satterthwaite, who will arrive in time for the opening round of fixtures, herself has a huge summer ahead with her spell in county cricket followed by the ICC Women's World Cup. She was understandably looking forward to the challenges ahead:

"I am extremely excited to be joining LCB Women for the Royal London Women's One Day Championship. I was made extremely welcome at Emirates Old Trafford last season with Lancashire Thunder, so to be able to come back to join the LCB Women's squad is very exciting for me. It will be great preparation for me personally leading into the ICC Women's World Cup and I will be doing all I can to help the county challenge for the Royal London title."

The squad have been preparing during the winter and are looking forward to hitting the ground running for the start of this season.
