Chanderpaul, Jones and Parkinson lead Second XI to victory
Second XI Report
Lancashire Second XI completed an impressive 67 run victory on the final day against the MCC Young Cricketer’s at Urmston Cricket Club yesterday.
After start of the final day, the game was delicately poised with both teams still in the match, however a fantastic partnership in Lancashire’s second innings swung the contest in favour of the red rose.
The MCC young cricketers added 16 to their overnight score when they declared seven down on 300, giving Lancashire Second XI a 17 run advantage going into the 3rd innings.
A change in the batting order, whereby Shiv Chanderpaul replaced Haseeb Hameed as Rob Jones’ opening partner, helped put MCC to the sword. The Lancashire openers stuck a fantastic opening partnership of 257/0 off only 18.2 overs with both batsmen scoring centuries at well over a run-a-ball.
The carnage finally relented when Lancashire declared leaving MCC needing 275 runs to win with 65 overs remaining in the day.
Wickets fell regularly for MCC as Matthew Parkinson took 4-46 off his 20 overs. One of Parkinson’s wickets was that of SM Imtiaz who was dismissed for 99 making the fourth innings the only one not to contain a century. Toby Lester also impressed taking 3/38 from 15 overs.
Liam Hurt was the last wicket to fall with the score on 207 as Lancashire Second XI completed a stunning 67 run victory.
