Derbyshire dominate opening day of Second XI clash

Derbyshire Second XI dominated the opening day with the bat against their Lancashire counterparts at Hem Heath in the first Championship fixture of the season.
The hosts won the toss and elected to bat first, but lost an early wicket as Danny Lamb dismissed opener Hancock without scoring to leave Derbyshire 8/1.
A second wicket fell seven overs later as Toby Lester had Ben Slater caught behind by Brooke Guest. Danny Lamb took Derbyshire's third wicket of the morning, and his second, dismissing Husein to leave the hosts 56/3.
Matt Critchley joined Macdonnell at the crease and the Derbyshire pair rebuilt well for the home side with both bringing up their half centuries in the afternoon session.
Critchley (89) was finally dismissed as Matt McKiernan broke the partnership worth 189. Arron Lilley took his dismissing Wood shortly after, with Derbyshire 258/5 but Macdonnell (136*) went to his century in the evening session.
The hosts finished the day on 343/5 after 106 overs.
