Emirates Old Trafford to host Radiohead in July
Emirates Old Trafford to host third concert
Emirates Old Trafford is hosting a third concert this summer with English rock legends Radiohead performing live at the venue on Tuesday 4 July.
The news follows last month's tragic incident at Manchester Arena and its subsequent temporary closure, which left the venue with no option other than to cancel Radiohead’s forthcoming concerts on Tuesday 4th and Wednesday 5th July. Emirates Old Trafford is keen to support its fellow venue in the city, which has gone through such a challenging time in recent weeks.
Emirates Old Trafford will be welcoming Radiohead at the start of July, having hosted two recent 50,000 sell-out concerts, firstly by the Courteeners at the end of May and, more recently, the One Love Manchester concert on Sunday 4th June.
As a result, Lancashire Lightning’s opening NatWest T20 Blast fixture against Leicestershire Foxes on Sunday 9th July will move to one of the Club’s outgrounds, with an exact location to be confirmed shortly, before they return to Emirates Old Trafford for the Roses clash against Yorkshire in the NatWest T20 Blast on Friday 14 July.
Lancashire County Cricket Club has always been keen to take T20 cricket around Lancashire as the Club has a commitment to grow and nurture cricket, and to continually develop relationships with recreational cricket, with the T20 format delivering growing player retention rates, across the Red Rose County.
The Club is working closely with the promoters (SJM) to ensure that the impact to the outfield is as limited as possible and work will be carried out all the way up to, and immediately after, the concert.
Head Groundsman Matt Merchant and his team have a fantastic track record in delivering the right level of playing conditions, and will ensure the pitch is in good condition ready for the Yorkshire clash in the NatWest T20 Blast at Emirates Old Trafford on Friday 14th July.
As part of this process, there will be an additional investment in pitch protection and outfield covering around the concert. The Club has successfully demonstrated in recent years that it is able to host a major-match day following on from concerts at Emirates Old Trafford.
Further information for supporters and customers who have tickets for Lancashire Lightning’s fixture against Leicestershire Foxes on Sunday 9th July will follow in due course.
Existing ticketholders for the previously announced Radiohead shows on July 4 and 5 at Manchester Arena will be contacted by their ticket agent and offered a ticket swap for the new venue, or a full refund. Additional tickets for the Tuesday 4th July show will go on sale on Saturday 17th June at 10am from www.gigsandtours.com, www.ticketweb.co.uk and w.a.s.t.e.
