Bairstow and Roy star for England in ODI series whitewash

Bairstow and Roy helped England cruise to another victory against the West Indies in the final game of the ODI series as the hosts secured a nine-wicket victory at the Ageas Bowl.

England openers Jonny Bairstow (141*) and Jason Roy (96) shared a second successive century stand for the Three Lions to help reach the West Indies target of 288 by the 38th over. The last time England’s openers shared a second successive century was in 2003 with Nick Knight and Marcus Trescothick against Australia and Sri Lanka.

The West Indies once again struggled with spin as Adil Rashid and Moeen Ali restricted the visitors bating attack to 288-6 – with Shai Hope (72) the only batsman to surpass the half-century mark.

The victory sees England win 11 of their last 13 matches in One-Day cricket in the UK with victories over South Africa, West Indies, Australia, New Zealand and Bangladesh.

What the Captains said

England Captain Eoin Morgan: "I'm extremely proud. It's been a long summer, especially with the focus on the Champions Trophy.

"Since then our attitude and composure has been convincing in every aspect. The guys who have come in have done outstandingly well."

West Indies Captain Jason Mohammed: "The guys batted well but it went wrong in the bowling department. We weren't anywhere near as consistent as we wanted to be."
