Josh Bohannon selected in the Tom Maynard Academy

Josh Bohannon selected in the Tom Maynard Academy

The fourth intake for the Tom Maynard Academy has been confirmed and includes Lancashire Scholarship player Josh Bohannon.

The academy compromises twelve professional cricketers from nine of the first class counties, their ages ranging from 18 to 24.

The 2017 group will spend nine days in Spain from 16th to 24th February at the Desert Springs resort, working to a carefully planned programme covering technical skills, strength and conditioning and both individual and group activity. The programme finishes with two special Twenty20 matches between the Tom Maynard Academy XI and a Spanish national side at La Manga.

Somerset Director of Cricket Matthew Maynard will again head the delivery of the programme. As with the three previous intakes, he will be assisted by Gloucestershire Assistant Head Coach Ian Harvey. Making up the trio of coaches in 2017 will be former Glamorgan captain and current wicket-keeper/batsman Mark Wallace, who has stepped in to replace Academy regular Paul Nixon, who is unable to participate in 2017.

After a nominations process, the twelve successful players are:

Josh Bohannon (Lancashire); Connor Brown (Glamorgan); Ollie Currill (Gloucestershire); Ryan Davies (Somerset); Harry Dearden (Leicestershire); Callum Gregory (Gloucestershire); Lewis Gregory (Somerset); Asher Hart (Hampshire); Rafeh Jafri (Surrey); Oliver Pike (Glamorgan); Jamie Porter (Essex); and James Weighill (Durham)

Matthew Maynard said: “We are delighted again to have had such fantastic support from the counties and I’m really looking forward to working with another group as we continue to establish the Tom Maynard Academy as an integral part of the ECB’s and the counties’ player development pathways.

"We have a great mix of talented players and some very knowledgeable people involved in delivering the programme and I have no doubt it will be of real benefit to the lads involved as they approach pre-season.”
