Kate Cross set for Perth winter stint

Kate Cross set for Perth winter stint

Lancashire Thunder bowler to play in Australia

Lancashire Thunder bowler Kate Cross will play cricket in Perth over the winter to get a run of competitive games under their belt.

The 26 year-old seam bowler has linked up with Western Fury to play in Australia’s domestic Women’s National Cricket League.

She will be available for the duration of the 50-over competition, which runs until February 2018 either side of the Ashes and Women’s Big Bash League.

Now in its 22nd year, the tournament has been won by the New South Wales Breakers on no less than 18 occasions. Cross and Jones will be hoping to help the Fury to their first title.

Cross said: “It's great to get the opportunity to play competitive cricket.

“You're always seeking to improve and add to your game, and spending some time in Perth gives me a good opportunity to get more games under my belt and become a better cricketer.

“During the Kia Super League I’ve seen the impact that an overseas cricketer can bring, and also how they can benefit. I'm really looking forward to the challenge.”

“It’s important that as many of our players as possible are getting the opportunity to test themselves by playing good, competitive cricket.”

England coach Mark Robinson said: “It’s important that as many of our players as possible are getting the opportunity to test themselves by playing good, competitive cricket.

“Kate has not been able to play as regularly as we would have liked over the last year so this is a good chance for them to test themselves and improve their skills.”
