Livingstone and Mahmood pen new Lancashire contracts

The Lancashire County Cricket Club duo of Liam Livingstone and Saqib Mahmood have both signed new contracts to keep them at Emirates Old Trafford.

Livingstone (23) has extended his contract until 2019 and Mahmood (19) until 2018, with the pair enjoying breakthrough seasons for Lancashire in 2016. Both players, who graduated through the Lancashire Academy, played for England Lions last year against Pakistan A and Sri Lanka A.

Mahmood is currently in South Africa taking part in the ECB Pace Programme whilst Livingstone is with the England Lions in Sri Lanka alongside fellow Red Rose batsman Haseeb Hameed.

Head Coach Glen Chapple said, “We’re delighted Liam and Saqib have signed new deals with the Club. They are two highly promising young cricketers who have made real progress over the last 12 months.

“Both players are going to form an important part of the side in the next few years, in all formats. We are very excited to see how their development continues in the coming years.”

Livingstone had an outstanding season in all formats for Lancashire last year. He made his First Class debut in the opening game of the 2016 season and went on to hit two centuries, with a top score of 108* against Somerset, at an average of over 50. In white ball cricket, Livingstone hit a half century off just 23 balls against Yorkshire Vikings and then a stunning run-a-ball 98 against Derbyshire in the Royal London One-Day Cup.

Mahmood made his First Class debut in the Specsavers County Championship clash against Hampshire at the Ageas Bowl in 2016. He also impressed in white-ball cricket for Lancashire Lightning taking eight wickets in the Royal London One-Day Cup and six in the NatWest T20 Blast. His best figures (3/31) came against Durham Jets after taking three wickets in four balls at Durham Riverside.

Liam Livingstone, added, “Playing cricket for Lancashire is all I’ve ever wanted to do and I’m delighted to have signed a new contract with the Club.

“I have supported the Club ever since I can remember and I hope to win more silverware with the Red Rose in the years to come.”

Mahmood commented, “I’m thrilled to sign a new deal with the Club. Lancashire have shown great faith in me throughout my development and have been crucial to my progress as a cricketer.

“It’s an exciting time to be a part of the squad and hopefully I can play an important role in the coming years.”
