Parkinson shines as Second XI go top

Second XI Match Report

Matthew Parkinson (5/14) and Calum Turner (74) starred as Lancashire Second XI beat Durham by eight wickets at Bowdon CC.

The game was reduced to 29 overs per side due to the rain in the morning, but play got underway at 2:30pm. Lancashire won the toss and elected to bowl first.

Durham put on 32 for the first wicket before Tom Bailey made the opening breakthrough dismissing Adam Hickey in the seventh over.

Matthew Parkinson took his first wicket before Josh Bohannon struck in the following over to leave Durham on 44/3. Parkinson then took his second wicket in his next over to leave Durham struggling.

Opening batsman Jones (34) put up some resistance but he was the next man to go as he was trapped lbw by Parkinson, who took his third wicket of the day.

SCORECARD

Karim (23) and Steel (26) hit useful runs for the visitors before Parkinson struck again to leave Durham 86/6.

Parkinson took his fifth wicket before Luke Procter took two wickets before Ed Moulton took the final wicket as Durham were bowled out for 149 in 28.4 overs.

In reply, Lancashire's openers Calum Turner and Rob Jones started well. Turner played aggressively and took most of the strike, notching up his half century in quick time.

Jones (17) was dismissed leaving Lancashire 86/1 with Shivnarine Chanderpaul, on his return from injury, coming in at number three.

Turner (74 off 54 balls) was bowled by KcKeirnan but Lancashire eased to victory with Procter (26*) and Chanderpaul (27*) seeing the hosts home to a comfortable eight wicket win.
