Second XI lead going into final day vs MCC

Second XI lead going into final day vs MCC

Second XI Day Two Report

Lancashire Second XI will take a narrow lead into the final day of their meeting with MCC Young Cricketers after rain ended play early on day two at Urmston.

The visitors were 284/6 at the close, still 33 behind Lancashire’s total from day one, which had featured a fine 110 from Haseeb Hameed.

MCC opener Joe Barrett defied the home attack with a century of his own, after helping to frustrate Lancashire’s bowlers with Ben Curran in an opening partnership of 89. The first wicket stand came to an end when Josh Bohannon caught Curran off the bowling of Simon Kerrigan but Barrett continued and eventually emulated the first day feat of Hameed, who turned his arm over with three overs of his leg spin on day two.

A smart stumping from Brooke Guest ended Barrett’s stay at 108 to give Kerrigan his second wicket with the MCC on 199/4. Matthew Guest then dug in with a half century to edge his side closer to Lancashire’s total until Luke Procter trapped him front for 53.

Procter finished with 3/47 from 16 overs, bowling Marc Lezar with what turned out to be the last ball of the day as the weather closed in with the match delicately poised.
