Second XI set 266 to win at Liverpool

Second XI set 266 to win at Liverpool

Lancashire Second XI need another 240 runs to win with all 10 wickets standing going in to the fourth and final day of their friendly against Middlesex.

The visitors, leading by 16 after the first innings, were bowled out for 249 to set the Red Rose a target of 266 to win at Aigburth.

Openers Calum Turner and Taylor Cornell took Lancs to 26-0 by the close, after fine work by the bowlers had polished off the Middlesex tail after tea.

SCORECARD

The day had started well with wicketkeeper Brooke Guest taking two catches to leave the away side tottering on 26-3, before a stand of 120 between Robbie White and Martin Andersson threatened to put Middlesex in charge.

Arron Lilley broke the partnership by running out Andersson, and he was involved again in what turned out to be the turning point of the innings by catching White off the bowling of Bradley Woolley for 91.

White fell with Middlesex on 226 but Lancashire’s Chris Sanders then took three of the remaining four wickets, which could only muster another 23 runs inside five overs. Tom Bailey added three scalps to go with his five-for from the first innings, leaving him with the excellent match figures of 8-73 and helping to put the second team in a promising position going in to Thursday.
