Simon Kerrigan stars on opening day for Lancashire Second XI
Second XI Report
Simon Kerrigan hit 57 before taking two late wickets for Lancashire Second XI on the opening day against Yorkshire at Emirates Old Trafford.
Lancashire won the toss and elected to bat first with Karl Brown, who hit two centuries for the side last week against Somerset and Hampshire, opening alongside Rob Jones.
David Willey, England and Yorkshire fast bowler who is returning to full fitness for the white rose, took the first wicket of the day, trapping Brown lbw to leave Lancashire 21/1.
Calum Turner (47) joined Jones and the pair built a solid second wicket partnership, putting on 84 before the nineteen year old was caught by Read off the bowling of pace bowler Wainman. Jones (42) followed just a couple of overs later to leave the hosts 108/3.
Wickets continued to fall for the Red Rose with Brooke Guest (5), Danny Lamb (2) and George Lavelle (4) all falling in quick succession to leave Lancashire struggling on 139/6.
Josh Bohannon (28) hit four boundaries but the all-rounder was caught behind off the bowling of Carver. Arron Lilley and Simon Kerrigan came out to the middle with the pair both playing counter-attacking innings for Lancashire.
Lilley (41) hit nine boundaries from 42 deliveries before he was stumped off Carver, but Kerrigan (57) went on to reach his half century in a 50 ball innings including seven boundaries and two maximums.
Lancashire were eventually bowled out for 257 from 79.2 overs.
In reply, Yorkshire faced a tricky 14 overs before the close. Saqib Mahmood and Danny Lamb bowled tightly but it was the introduction of Kerrigan that made the breakthrough. The Lancashire spinner trapped opener Callis (18) lbw before dismissing David Willey four balls later.
Play starts at 11am today and entry to Emirates Old Trafford is free.
