Somerset dominate Second XI on Day Two
Somerset's First XI continued their domination over a young Lancashire Second XI side on Day Two of this pre-season friendly fixture at Taunton.
Lancashire were bowled out in their first innings for just 69, with Jamie Overton dismissing Toby Lester caught behind.
The Red Rose needed early wickets and the visitors made the perfect start as Lester dismissed the experienced Marcus Trescothick early to leave Somerset 7/1.
Danny Lamb then struck twice in quick succession in the 10th and 12th overs dismissing Tom Abell and Jim Allenby with the hosts 48/3.
James Hildreth played positively for the hosts alongside George Bartlett as the pair put on 112 for the fourth wicket. Lamb (3/53) took his third wicket of the day, as Josh Bohannon took a safe catch to dismiss Bartlett.
Hildreth (76) was very well supported by van der Merwe (50) as Somerset build a considerable lead over Lancashire.
Simon Kerrigan (2/18) and Arron Lilley (2/20) both took two wickets apiece as the home side were bowled out for 256 in their second innings.
Lancashire Second XI, chasing 407 to win, started in positive fashion with Karl Brown and Rob Jones opening the batting.
Brown, in particular, looked in good touch, hitting three early boundaries as the pair put on 58 for the first wicket. Brown was then forced to retire hurt in the 17th over after being hit on the elbow off the bowling of Jamie Overton.
Luke Procter, batting a three, was dismissed without scoring before Rob Jones was caught in the slips off Overton, who took his second wicket.
Calum Turner, Josh Bohannon and Brooke Guest all fell cheaply as Lancashire closed Day Two on 99/5, still needing 308 for victory.
