T20 fixtures announced for Lancashire Lightning and Lancashire Thunder

Lancashire Lightning and Lancashire Thunder’s T20 fixtures have been announced this evening ahead of the upcoming 2018 season.

Glen Chapple’s side will start their T20 Blast campaign with a home fixture against Worcestershire Rapids on Thursday 5 July before taking on Derbyshire Falcons just a day later for the side’s first away game of the competition. Lancashire Lightning’s final game is at Edgbaston where they will take on Birmingham Bears on Wednesday 15 August as the Club look to cement their place at Finals Day for the seventh time.

The first instalment of the highly anticipated Roses clash between Lancashire Lightning and Yorkshire Vikings takes place at Emirates Old Trafford on Friday 20 July, with the return fixture taking place at Emerald Headingley on Thursday 9 August.

Lancashire Head Coach Glen Chapple said, “The announcement of next season’s fixtures is always an exciting time of the year and brings us a step closer to the 2018 season.

“The T20 Blast is getting bigger and better every year now and we are close to securing an overseas signing for this competition which will give us a big boost.

“The T20 title in 2015 at Edgbaston still lives long in the memory and we’re all desperate to get back there in 2018. We’ve got a good record in that competition and our home form is outstanding, and we are determined to get a good run going next season."

Next year’s Kia Super League has expanded with each team playing each other home and away in 2018. Lancashire Thunder will start their campaign on Sunday 22 July against Loughborough Lightning with the final game taking place at the Ageas Bowl on Saturday 18 August against Southern Vipers.

Following on from last year’s success, 2018 will see two double header fixtures at Emirates Old Trafford with both Lancashire Lightning and Lancashire Thunder playing on the same day.

Lancashire Thunder General Manager Bobby Cross said, “It is great to see the expansion of the Kia Super League in 2018 where each side will play each other home and away. This is a further development of the women’s game and will benefit the players and the competition, as a whole, I believe.

“Women’s cricket is expanding so quickly in popularity and with crowds up by a third in last year’s Kia Super League, we’re all determined to keep the momentum going in 2018 and beyond.

“We’re all really looking forward to the two double headers that are taking place at Emirates Old Trafford again, as well at the Club’s fantastic outgrounds. Playing away fixtures at Test Match grounds such as Emerald Headingley, Kia Oval and Ageas bowl will be a great experience for our group of players.”
