Tickets on sale for Lancashire Thunder fixtures

Tickets are now on general sale from just £5 for adults and £1 for juniors for all of Lancashire Thunder’s home fixtures in the Kia Super League this summer.

Lancashire Thunder’s opening home game is against Surrey Stars which takes place at Emirates Old Trafford in a double header live on Sky Sports, before Lancashire Lightning’s NatWest T20 Blast clash against Worcestershire Rapids on Wednesday 16th August.

Thunder then take on Loughborough Lightning at Blackpool CC on Sunday 20th August before playing their first ever game at Liverpool CC against the reigning Champions Southern Vipers on Wednesday 23rd August.

It was announced last month that Kate Cross, Danielle Hazell and Sarah Taylor will be Lancashire’s England contingent, whilst Australian Jess Jonassen and the Kiwi duo of Amy Satterthwaite and Lea Tahuhu will be Thunder’s overseas players this summer.

Taylor, who took an indefinite break from the game in May 2016 is regarded as one of the world's best batters and was the first woman to play first-grade men's cricket in Australia. The 27 year-old had her central contract renewed in December with the ECB with the aim of being fit for the World Cup and then available to take part in the Kia Super League with Lancashire Thunder.

Bobby Cross, General Manager of Lancashire Thunder said, “We’re all extremely excited about the second season of the Kia Super League starting again later this summer. Preparations are well underway with the squad having their first team training session earlier this week at Emirates Old Trafford.

“We are very keen to ensure ticket prices are affordable as possible for all those wanting to attend Lancashire Thunder home fixtures. We hope that we can attract new audiences to the game as Women and Girls cricket continues to grow at an unprecedented rate, following the success of last year.

“This summer is a huge one for women’s cricket, particularly with both the World Cup, the second season of the Kia Super League and the Ashes later in the year. If there was ever a year to inspire the next generation of girls playing cricket, 2017 is the year.”

ECB’s Director of England Women’s Cricket, Clare Connor said, “The Kia Super League is a key part of a fantastic opportunity this summer. The KSL will showcase our sport, grow our participation base, reach new audiences and inspire more fans than ever before to watch and get involved with women’s cricket.

“We have already seen the competition improve the quality of premier domestic women’s cricket in England. The interest from the first year showed us what was possible with the tournament and we have a great base to continue to grow and develop the KSL.”

The Kia Super League will feature on television and radio this summer with Sky Sports providing live coverage of six ‘double-headers’ alongside NatWest T20 Blast matches. They will also broadcast finals day, with BBC Radio covering every round of matches, alongside finals day.
