West Indies v England, Third ODI Review
West Indies v England, Third ODI Review
England complete an ODI series whitewash with an incredible 186 run victory in Barbados against the West Indies as Alex Hales and Joe Root both hit centuries.
Alex Hales, who replaced Sam Billings for the final game of the series, blasted an outstanding 110 runs as England reached their joint-highest score in One-Day cricket against the West Indies… All the more impressive that he did it in his first game back since recovering from a hand injury that has kept him out of action since the tour of India back in January.
Partnering up with Joe Root (101), Hales and the England Test Captain shared a 162 run partnership to give the visitors an innings total of 328.
The West Indies, who were looking to claim a consolation victory and avoid a series white-wash were no match for England’s bowling attack who seemed to knock over wickets like they were dominos. In fact, the West Indies batting was so poor, that at one stage it seemed unlikely they would make triple figures after going down 87-8 by the 29th over.
Only an eight-wicket stand by Jonathan Carter helped the hosts get over the 100 mark, but he could not stop the inevitable as the West Indies spectacularly crashed to a 186 run loss – scoring just 142 runs with 20 overs still to go. Unbelievable.
Is Joe Root the best no.3 batsman?
What a year Joe Root is having! England’s most reliable batsman across all three formats of the game continues to produce moment of magic at the crease with yet another century for his country.
After helping England seal the deal in the previous fixture in Antigua, his appearance after Jason Roy’s dismissal (17) seemed to ignite Alex Hales as the Three Lions quickly picked up runs to complete their first series whitewash in ODI cricket since 2012.

What next for West Indies in ODI cricket?
This loss will certainly not go away any time soon.
The nature of such a heavy defeat will no doubt send shockwaves throughout the West Indies Cricket Board who will look to rectify the damage and will hope to get them back to winning ways again.
Next up for the West Indies in ODI cricket is against Pakistan next month who will provide a stern test for the hosts as they look to rectify their recent dip in form before their visit to England in the summer.
