Wickets tumble on Day 1 for Second XI
Simon Kerrigan and Danny Lamb both impressed with the ball for Lancashire Second XI before Somerset's First Team rolled through the young Red Rose side on the opening day.
Opening batsman Marcus Trescothick hit early boundaries against opening bowlers Toby Lester and Saqib Mahmood before the latter made the opening breakthrough dismissing Jim Allenby (3).
Danny Lamb then made the second breakthrough to dismiss Captain Tom Abell with Brooke Guest taking a safe catch behind.
Lamb took two further wickets before Lester then struck to leave the hosts struggling on 82/5.
Steven Davies and van der Merwe came together for Somerset and put on a partnership worth 86 before Simon Kerrigan made his first breakthrough.
Kerrigan (4/34) went on to take three further wickets with Lamb (4/17) taking his fourth as Somerset were bowled out for 220.
In reply, Somerset made the perfect start and took early Lancashire wickets. Rob Jones was the first to go after a brilliant piece of fielding from Abell to leave the Red Rose 5/1.
Karl Brown and Calum Turner were dismissed in consecutive deliveries off the bowling of Davey, who would go on to take five wickets from his 11 overs.
Wickets continued to tumble with only Josh Bohannon (12) and Arron Lilley (16) reaching double figures as Lancashire fell to 62/9 at the close of the opening day at Taunton.
