Bohannon and Lester shine on opening day for Lancashire's Second XI

16 wickets fell on an eventful first day of Lancashire’s Second XI Championship game against Worcestershire at Barnt Green CC.

Haseeb Hameed won the toss and elected to bat first. However Hameed (24) and his opening partner Rob Jones (7) both fell cheaply, before number three Danny Lamb went for a duck to leave the visitors 59/3.

Josh Bohannon and Shivnarine Chanderpaul put together a useful stand before the latter was dismissed for 21, but Bohannon looked well set as he moved past his half century.

Lancashire continued to lose wickets around him though, spinner Nicholas Oxley was the pick of the home sides bowling attack, claiming four for 34.

SCORECARD

Bohannon was running out of partners and ramped up his scoring rate in the process, he was eventually dismissed for 93, including 12 fours and a six. Liam Hurt (16) soon followed as Lancashire were bowled out for 194.

The Red Rose needed to make a good start with the ball and Toby Lester (3/32) duly obliged, as his early wickets helped reduce Worcestershire to 67/4.

Number three Joe Barrett was going well and brought up his half century, but with the score on 145/4 he was caught by Jones off the bowling of Tom Lawson (1/36) for 60.

There was still time for Jack Morley to claim the wicket of Ben Twohig (10) late in the day, as the home side finished on 204/6 with a slender lead of just 10 runs going into Day Two.
