Clark half century guides Lancashire to victory

Lancashire continued their impressive start to this year’s pre-season tour with a five wicket win over Surrey at the ICC Academy.

Haseeb Hameed won the toss and elected to bowl first with Danny Lamb and Tom Bailey opening the bowling for Lancashire.

Bailey made the early breakthrough as he bowled Will Jacks for 5 to leave Surrey 21/1 in the seventh over.

Graham Onions, in his first appearance for Lancashire following his move from Durham last year, then took his maiden wicket for the Club with Rory Burns caught in the slips.

SCORECARD

Scott Borthwick played nicely for Surrey but Arron Lilley dismissed the opener for 42 with Stephen Parry taking the catch.

Tom Bailey then took his second wicket of the day with Arun Harinath brilliantly caught behind by Lancashire wicket keeper Brooke Guest to leave Surrey 100/4 in the 28th over.

Ravi Patel and Freddie van den Bergh then put on 54 for the fifth wicket. Patel (60) was dismissed by Steven Croft and then wickets started to tumble for Surrey.

Van den Bergh and Jade Dernbach were both run out and Danny Lamb accounted for Smith and McKer before Stephen Parry bowled Pillans.

Surrey were bowled out for 231.

In reply, Karl Brown and Haseeb Hameed opened the batting for Lancashire but McKer had Brown caught by Patel for 1.

Rob Jones and Hameed played sensibly for Lancashire and put on 50 for the second wicket in the afternoon Dubai heat.

Both batsmen then fell in quick succession. Jones was run out before van den Bergh had Hameed caught behind for 37.

Jordan Clark joined Steven Croft in the middle but Surrey’s spinners started to turn the screw as Amir Virdi bowled Croft and then Danny Lamb in quick succession.

Brooke Guest joined Clark at the crease and the pair played nicely, knocking the ball round the park to start.

Clark upped the scoring rate and went to a 46-ball half century, following on from yesterday's unbeaten century.

The pair put on 81 together and saw Lancashire home to an impressive five wicket victory at the ICC Academy
