Croft hits century on Day Two for Second XI
Steven Croft hit a commanding century as Lancashire batted through day two to take the lead over MCC Young Cricketers in their latest Second XI Championship match.
Croft’s 151, together with half centuries from Rob Jones and Josh Bohannon, helped the Red Rose finish on 427/6 in reply to MCC’s 344/9 declared.
Resuming on 18/0 at High Wycombe, Lancashire lost Karl Brown for 17 in the sixth over of the day but Jones and Croft added another 106, before the former fell on the stroke of lunch after hitting 13 fours in his 64.
Croft dominated a third wicket of stand of 68 with Brooke Guest (17), and then put on another 126 in good time in partnership with Bohannon.
The 33-year-old hit 22 fours and a six before eventually falling when caught behind off Manthorpe. Bohannon followed quickly having hit nine fours and two sixes in his 67, but Jamie Crawley and Danny Lamb then enjoyed themselves against MCC’s tiring attack in a sixth wicket partnership of 72.
Crawley fell just before the close when he was trapped in front by Kiel van Vollenhoven, but Lamb remained unbeaten on 43 having hit seven fours and a six so far.
It leaves Lancashire 83 ahead and in a strong position to press for their third championship win of the season.
