Defeat for Lancashire Cricket Women at Kent

Lancashire Women couldn’t make it two wins in as many days as they were beaten by nine wickets against Kent at the County Ground, Beckenham.

Fresh from opening their Royal London Women’s One-Day Cup defence with a 10 wicket victory at Middlesex, Lancashire batted first with Captain Eve Jones and Emma Lamb looking to pick up from their unbeaten stand of 123 the previous day.

But, Jones fell for eight with the score on 17, before two wickets in two balls saw Shachi Pai (2) depart, followed by Rebecca Duckworth, who was run out without facing a ball to leave the visitors on 26/3.

Wickets continued to fall as the Red Rose stumbled to 77/8, until Rachel Dickinson (36) and Nalisha Patel (38) put on 44 for the ninth wicket, before Patel was joined by Alex Hartley (5*) and the pair added a further 36 to take the total to 157 all out in the final over of the 50.

Lancashire needed an early breakthrough and they were given hope when Hartley (1/25) dismissed opener Lottie Bryan for just 10.

However, that would be the only wicket to fall as Kent skipper Tamsin Beaumont (70*) was joined by Alice Davidson-Richards (61*) and the pair put on an unbeaten stand of 121 to guide the home side to a nine wicket win with 13 overs to spare.

The defeat leaves Dan Atkinson’s side fourth in the table following the opening weekend of fixtures, with one win and one defeat to their name, ahead of Sunday’s trip to play Nottinghamshire.
