Hameed and Jones hit centuries for Lancashire's Second XI

Lancashire dominated Day Two of their Second XI Championship match against Worcestershire, batsmen Haseeb Hameed and Rob Jones both hit centuries as the Red Rose built a healthy second innings lead.

They started the day ball in hand, looking to take the remaining four Worcestershire wickets - who had a ten run lead.

Toby Lester made early inroads when he dismissed Nicholas Oxley for 14, with just six runs added to the overnight score. Lester claimed his five-for shortly after, when Zain Ul-Hassan was caught by Jones, to finish with figures of five for 45.

Joshua Dell reached his century as batting partners began to run out at the other end. Dell was the last man to go, off the bowling of Danny Lamb (2/14) as the home side were bowled out for 255, to take a first innings lead of 61.

SCORECARD

George Balderson strode out to open with Hameed and the pair quickly moved beyond the 61 run deficit, putting on 104 for the first wicket before Balderson went for 38.

Jones joined Hameed at the crease and the pair continued to pile on the runs, cashing in on some loose spin bowling from Worcestershire. Hameed was the first to bring up his three figures, his second of the week for Lancashire’s Second XI, as the pair put on a partnership of 148.

Hameed was eventually caught off the bowling of Tommy Sturgess for 140, but there was still time for Jones to reach his century in the closing minutes of the day. He will return to the crease tomorrow on 102 not out, with Lancashire 340/2, holding a second innings lead of 279 runs.
