Hameed century sees Second XI over the line

A superb Haseeb Hameed century helped Lancashire’s Second XI chase down 286 to claim their first 50 over trophy win of the season against Worcestershire at Barnt Green CC.

The home side won the toss and elected to bat, making a solid start before three wickets for seven runs, shared between Josh Bohannon (3/38) and Danny Lamb (2/44), reduced them to 70/3.

Worcestershire opener George Rhodes was still at the crease and moved beyond his half century as he and Joshua Dell (66) shared a fifth wicket stand of 132.

Rhodes would bat for the duration of the innings to finish 135 not out, as the hosts posted 285 for the loss of five wickets from their 50 overs.

SCORECARD

Lancashire openers Hameed and Rob Jones made a bright start to the run chase, both passing 50 in a first wicket partnership of 149.

Jones’ dismissal for 68 off the bowling of Ben Twohig (2/41) brought Lamb to the crease and an increase to the scoring rate, the 22-year-old striking five fours and three sixes during his 63 from just 46 balls.

Hameed was still scoring well and brought up his century from 116 balls as Lancashire closed in on victory.

He was dismissed for 107 with nine still required and it was left to Bohannon (20*) and Shivnarine Chanderpaul (8*) to guide their side home to a seven wicket win, with five balls to spare.
