Hameed hits century against Glamorgan on Day One
Hameed century leads Lancashire on Day One
Haseeb Hameed hit his first century of 2018 on Day One of Lancashire’s final pre-season fixture against Glamorgan at the ICC Academy.
It was agreed before the game that Lancashire would bat first for 60 overs, with Glamorgan occupying the crease for 90 overs before the Red Rose would have a final 30 overs tomorrow afternoon.
Opening the batting for the Lancashire was Haseeb Hameed and Karl Brown and Glamorgan bowled well in the early stages with the ball nipping around off the seam.
Brown departed early, trapped lbw by van der Gugten for 7 to leave Lancashire 14/1.
Rob Jones came to the crease and despite hitting an early boundary, never seem settled at the crease. The 22 year-old was caught brilliantly in the slips off the bowling of Hogan for 12 off 40 balls.
That brought Steven Croft to the crease and whilst he hit a couple of boundaries down the ground, the former Lancashire Captain was dismissed for 11.
Hameed continued on his way to a half century off 92 deliveries which included 11 boundaries at that stage.
Brooke Guest joined Hameed at the crease and the pair played sensibly as the former started to increase his strike rate. The opening batsman hit two sixes as he approached his century.
The 21 year-old batsman reached his century from 139 balls, continuing his good early season form following on from two half centuries in Dubai so far.
Guest hit six boundaries as he closed the innings on 37, and whilst Hameed was eventually dismissed for 126 and Danny Lamb (17*) came in and played freely, Lancashire finished their 60 overs on 215/2.
In Glamorgan’s first innings, Tom Bailey continued his good form having taken six wickets a couple of days ago against the UAE, dismissed Selman cheaply to leave Glamorgan 6/1 in the third over.
Brown hit four boundaries for Glamorgan before Chris Sanders took his first wicket of the day with Glamorgan 55/2 in the 17th over.
Murphy and Carlson played fluently for Glamorgan and the pair put on 50.
Captain Hameed brought spin into the attack in the form of Arron Lilley and Stephen Parry but the Lancashire went wicketless for the final 13 overs.
Glamorgan closed the day 109/2 from 30 overs. They will bat a further 60 overs tomorrow before Lancashire will get 30 overs to conclude this year’s pre-season tour.
