Hameed stars on opening day for Second XI
Haseeb Hameed starred for Lancashire's Second XI, hitting an unbeaten century in bowler friendly conditions on Day One of their Championship clash with Leicestershire.
After losing the toss, the Red Rose were asked to bat first at Blackpool CC and made a solid start as Hameed and opening parnter Rob Jones put on 50 for the first wicket.
However when Jones departed for 13, four middle-order ducks followed to reduce the hosts from 51-0 to 72-5.
Hameed was still at the crease and was joined by Stephen Parry and the pair began to move the score along.
The 21-year-old brought up his half century as Lancashire moved beyond 100 and by the time Perry reached his milestone, they had added 100 together.
Shortly after, Hameed reached his century in prompt fashion, from just 104 balls and including 15 fours.
Parry was dismissed for a valuable 64 and George Balderson quickly followed, however Liam Hurt (35*) joined Hameed in the evening session and the pair ended the day with an unbroken stand of 52.
Hameed finished on 131 not out, a timely return to form in tough batting conditions and the Boltonian will be looking to add to his total on Day Two, with his side 270-7 at the close.
