Mennie backs Faulkner to shine

Joe Mennie is backing James Faulkner to regain a regular place in Australia's limited overs teams and says he is relishing the opportunity to play with the dynamic all-rounder in Lancashire colours this summer.

Fast bowler Mennie signed on at Emirates Old Trafford last month as the Club's overseas player for all competitions for the majority of the 2018 season.

Faulkner, meanwhile, will play for the Lightning in this summer's Vitality Blast after signing a two-year T20 contract. It will be the first time the pair have played with each other.

The last 12 months or so have been pretty frustrating when it comes to Australia duties for Faulkner, who was man-of-the-match in the World Cup final in 2015.

He lost his Cricket Australia contract and had to nurse a knee injury, which contributed to him missing last summer's Champions Trophy in England and also the T20 Blast with the Red Rose county.

The 27-year-old returned to national colours for October's one-day series in India, but he's not currently involved in the series against England.

However, Mennie expects that to change in the near future and for Faulkner to add plenty more to his 93 limited overs caps.

"James is a class player, a world-class performer who has shown before what he can do on the biggest stage," he said.

"You look back at the 2015 World Cup where he unbelievable in the final against New Zealand and throughout the competition. He also played a really important role when Lancashire won the T20 competition that year.

"He'll do it again, no doubt.

"He's a tough character and competitor, and he loves to get in the contest.

"He's a great cricketer. Every time I've played against him, it's always been a tough battle. He's also a good bloke and from what I've heard, he made a pretty big impact when he last played here.

"I'm looking forward to playing with him for Lancashire this year and picking his brains on a few things."
