Krikken appointed Lead Coach in Indoor Cricket Centre

Former Derbyshire wicket keeper Karl Krikken has been appointed as the Lead Coach in the Indoor Cricket Centre at Emirates Old Trafford. The 48 year-old has also been named Head Coach of Lancashire U14s and will play an important role in Lancashire Cricket’s Talent ID programme.

The Bolton-born wicket keeper enjoyed a 17-year playing career for Derbyshire where he was also named Club vice-captain. He went on to take on the role of Academy Director, Second XI Coach and was then named Head Coach of Derbyshire in May 2011. In his first full season in charge, he led Derbyshire to promotion to Division One of the County Championship.

Since 2014, Karl has worked for various county clubs and the ECB as a coach, scout and assessor – winning the ECB National Cricket Coach of the Year award in 2014. Krikken assisted with coaching of the Lancashire Cricket Academy last year, working closely with wicket keepers George Lavelle and Ellie Threlkeld.

Lancashire’s Director of Cricket, Paul Allott, said, “We are delighted that Karl has been appointed as Lead Coach in the Indoor Cricket Centre at Emirates Old Trafford. He has a wealth of experience that he’ll be able to bring to the role.

“He has also been named Head Coach for the Lancashire U14s ahead of the upcoming season and it will be great for those young players to work with someone as knowledgeable as Karl.

“The Club’s indoor and outdoor facilities are a big asset to Emirates Old Trafford and I believe this can help us in attracting more young children to play cricket throughout the year.”

The Indoor Cricket Centre is the home to Lancashire Cricket’s professional squads, the Club’s Academy and County Age Group squads where the players train throughout the winter.

The training facility has five elite standard indoor nets which have full run-ups and a multi-use area along with five professional bowling machines. The Cricket Centre offers group or individual coaching sessions and net hire available to individuals, clubs, groups throughout the year.

Krikken added, “I‘m really excited about the opportunity to join the Club as Lead Coach in the Trafford Indoor Cricket Centre at Emirates Old Trafford.

“The facilities at Emirates Old Trafford are excellent and I can’t wait to look at all the coaching courses we offer, and also getting heavily involved in Lancashire Cricket’s Talent ID programme and as Head Coach of the Under 14s.

“The Club’s age-group and pathway system is one of the best in the country and you can see that in how many of the current squad have come through the Lancashire system are now playing an important role in the First Team.”

Krikken will also assist Gary Yates and Stephen Titchard with the Emerging Player Programme and Lancashire Cricket Academy.
