AO.com Volunteer of the Month: May

Lancashire Cricket launches AO.com Volunteer of the Month

  • Lancashire Cricket Club, alongside club partners, electrical retailer AO.com, have launched the new AO.com Volunteer of the Month Award as part of the Club’s Volunteer Recognition Programme.
  • The initiative recognises outstanding contributions to cricket in Lancashire by volunteers on a monthly basis, culminating in the AO.com Volunteer of the Year Award to be announced at the 2018 End of Season Awards in September.
  • Peter Mcdermid from Trimpell Cricket Club is the inaugural winner, claiming the May AO.com Volunteer of the Month Award.

Lancashire Cricket is delighted to announce the first winner of the Volunteer Recognition Programme, sponsored by AO.com.

The inaugural winner is Peter Mcdermid from Trimpell Cricket Club who has volunteered at the club for over 50 years in a multitude of roles. He is responsible for the junior section, running coaching sessions and managing teams across Lancaster and Morecambe. Peter also spends every lunch time coaching cricket at Westgate School, a local primary school, and when he’s not, he prepares the wicket at Trimpell CC and looks after the club administration.

Peter Mcdermid was delighted to have won the award saying, “It was a terrific boost for me and everyone involved with the Trimpell Club to be recognised by Lancashire Cricket and AO.com. It’s great that Lancashire Cricket Club is taking such an interest in the club game and that key people take the time to keep up such contact with grassroots cricket.”

The new Volunteer Recognition Programme affirms AO.com’s involvement and commitment to recreational and grassroots cricket in the North West, with Lancashire players awarding future winners at their clubs.

AO’s Chief Brand and People Officer, Michael Bates said, “Through our involvement in this project it’s great to see first-hand the work people are doing throughout the county to give back to the community. As a business, we know the importance of supporting our local community around the North West and cricket gives us a great platform to do this.”

AO.com, who are a leading online electrical retailer based in Bolton, have been a partner of Lancashire Cricket since 2015, which includes sponsoring the Club’s AO.com green Royal

London One-Day Cup kit, new and exclusive naming rights of the hugely popular Family and Community Stand at Emirates Old Trafford, as well as the continuation and development of the popular ‘Best Delivery’ bowling activation as part of the Club’s Thunder and Lightning Roadshow across the entire North West region.

Director of Cricket, Paul Allott said, “The Club’s partnership with AO.com has gone from strength to strength over the last few years and AO.com’s commitment to supporting local communities in the North West has allowed us to launch this Volunteer Recognition Programme. Over the coming months, Lancashire Cricket and AO.com will be rewarding more volunteers, recognising their contributions to cricket in this great county.”

As part of the award, Trimpell CC were awarded a new 55-inch 4K TV, courtesy of AO.com, which will be set up in their Clubhouse and Peter was also presented with a special individual prize. It was awarded by Lancashire’s Director of Cricket, Paul Allott, and Head of Cricket Business, Warren Hegg, earlier this week.

Paul Allott said, “Volunteers just like Peter are vital to the operation of cricket clubs right across the county. From tending to the pitch to coaching the junior teams, without such enthusiastic and passionate volunteers cricket in Lancashire would suffer. It is our privilege to be able to reward Peter for all his efforts and passion over so many years. I look forward to seeing Peter at the 2018 End of Season Awards in September where Peter will be a nominee for the AO Volunteer of the Year”

As AO.com Volunteer of the Month for May, Peter becomes a nominee for the AO.com Volunteer of the Year award, which will be presented at Lancashire Cricket Club’s End of Season Awards at Emirates Old Trafford on Friday 28 September.
