Lancashire Thunder coach heading to Women's Big Bash League
Chris Chambers to join up with Melbourne Renegades
Lancashire Thunder Assistant Coach Chris Chambers is heading to Melbourne and the Women’s Big Bash League this month in order to further his experience as a coach.
Chambers, who is Thunder’s lead fielding coach and also Assistant Coach for Lancashire Women, is to work with the Melbourne Renegades and their Head Coach Tim Coyle for the second half of the competition.
He will be re-united with Thunder’s three-time overseas player, Amy Sattherthwaite, who captains the Renegades, while England’s Dani Wyatt is also on their roster.
Chambers will fly to Melbourne on Boxing Day and will meet up with the squad on Friday 28 December, his second match is the New Year’s Day Melbourne Derby between the Renegades and the Stars at the MCG, which will act as a curtain raiser for the men’s game, later that day.
Kate Cross (Perth Scorchers), Alex Hartley (Hobart Hurricanes) and Thunder Head Coach Alex Blackwell (Sydney Thunder) are all taking part in the WBBL, with Chambers’ Renegades set to face Hartley on January 3 and January 12 with a meeting with Blackwell in between on January 8.
“This is great opportunity for me to get involved in one of the world’s leading T20 competitions,” said Chambers.
“It will be fascinating to be able to have the insight into the working of a different squad, coaching staff and competition.
“I would like to thank both Melbourne Renegades and Lancashire Cricket for allowing me this amazing opportunity, hopefully I can bring back some new ideas ahead of next year’s Kia Super League and Women’s First Team programme.”
