Update: Lancashire v Yorkshire Second XI
UPDATE: Lancashire v Yorkshire, Second XI Championship
The Lancashire Second XI match against Yorkshire was played on a newly laid pitch that had been developed over the last two years at Southport, one of the Club’s outgrounds. This new pitch had deteriorated overnight after the end of day one of the match which saw Yorkshire close on 75 & 6/1 after Lancashire declared on 266/3.
The rapid deterioration was down to the extremely persistent dry and hot conditions, which were more severe than anyone had expected or forecasted. The umpires decided, that in the best interest of the batsmen, to abandon play on the second morning of the Second XI Championship fixture.
The Specsavers County Championship fixture against Worcestershire starting on Wednesday 29 August at Southport will go ahead, as the match will be played on the more established first pitch which has successfully hosted regular Lancashire fixtures during the last few seasons.
