Lancashire Women beaten by Hampshire

Lancashire Cricket Women couldn't make it back-to-back wins as they were beaten by seven wickets against Hampshire at Heywood CC.

After their win over Somerset on Sunday, Eve Jones once again won the toss and elected to bat first.

Jones and Emma Lamb shared an opening stand of 90 in the sunshine, before Jones was bowled by Fritha Morris (3/43) for a patient 37.

Hampshire bowlers Providence Cowdrill (2/36) and Danielle Ransley (3/9) took regular wickets throughout the middle order to keep the Red Rose at bay.

However, opener Lamb was still at the crease and began to up the run rate after passing her half century.

She was eventually dismissed for a fine 91 from 101 balls with the score on 176/7, before the home side were all out shortly after for 199.

Hampshire made a good start with the bat as Suzie Bates and Charlie Dean put on an opening stand of 61, before Dean was caught by Jones off the bowling of Alex Hartley for 22.

Bates continued to score nicely and brought up her half century, and was supported well by Isabelle Collis (18), before she became Hartley's second victim, and then by Emily Windsor (21).

By the time Windsor was run out, the damage was done and all that remained was for Bates to reach her century.

She duly obliged to finish 103 not out and complete a seven wicket win for her side, with more than five overs remaining.

The defeat leaves Lancashire fourth in the Royal London Women's One-Day Cup standings, 16 points behind leaders Hampshire.
