Lavelle scores a century as Lancashire Cricket Academy beat Staffordshire

George Lavelle struck a rapid century and Sam Oldham took five wickets as Lancashire Academy beat Staffordshire Development XI by 63 runs earlier this week.

After winning the toss and batting first on a hot day, the Red Rose made the most of their opportunity as openers Taylor Cornwall (62) and Tyler McGladdery (37) put on 74 for the first wicket.

Lancashire lost a couple of cheap wickets in the middle order but when Lavelle was joined at the crease by Sam Dorsey the runs continued to flow, and quickly.

When Lavelle was dismissed in the 50th and final over of the innings he had raced to exactly 100 runs from 80 balls, including eight fours and three sixes.

Dorsey finished on 33 not out as Lancashire Academy posted a strong looking total of 259/5.

Scorecard

Staffordshire made a good start with the bat and reached 50 without loss, before three wickets fell for just nine runs to put Lancashire in the ascendancy.

Ben Aitchison (3/39) taking the first two of his three wickets and Tom Hartley (1/20) also picking one up.

Half centuries in the middle order by T Hope and L Allison rebuilt the Stafford reply, before Aitchison struck again and Oldham picked up the first of his five wickers for just 23 runs.

Oldham then ripped through the lower order, with no batsman scoring more than double figures as Staffordshire were bowled out for 196 - falling 63 runs short of the target they had been set.
