Livingstone raring to go ahead of Test Series

Livingstone raring to go ahead of Test Series

Livingstone ready for New Zealand challenge

Lancashire Captain Liam Livingstone is ready and raring to go as he departs with the England squad for New Zealand ahead of the upcoming Test series.

The Barrow-born batsman was in the West Indies with the England Lions but his tour was curtailed due to an ankle injury, sustained in training.

“There was a little bit of a worry when I came back from the Lions trip.

“I snapped the ligament in my ankle. It was sore when I did it, so I knew I had done something to it. It was worrying.

“But I have worked hard with Dave Roberts and the medical staff here at Lancashire over the last week and it has healed quicker than it should have.

“I will probably have to have it strapped up. But I have trained over the last two days and, hopefully, that will be the end of it.

“I am fit and ready to go.

“If I don’t get the opportunity to play in a Test, it will still be a great month for me and my development by simply being in and around that group of players who are world-class.

“I can bring that experience back to Lancashire for the start of the season."

It has been a rapid rise for the 24 year-old has been vast since making his Lancashire T20 debut in 2015 and his first class bow in 2016.

"Two years ago today, I still hadn’t played a first-class cricket game, so the journey has been fairly quick for me.

“Everything I have done in my career so far where I have had a challenge ahead of me, I have taken it with both hands.

“As a young lad going into the Test squad for the first time you have to make a good impression and show people what you have got, even if you don’t get out in the middle.

“I do feel responsibility because people in the dressing room can see the journey I have made and how quickly it can happen,” he said.

“At one point in the West Indies we had Alex keeping and me, Keats and Haseeb at first, second and third slip.

“It was nice to see the lads together in an England environment, it shows what the club are doing, we are producing a lot of high-quality cricketers which is great for us. We are lads who have grown up together and are now pushing through to become the core of the first team.”
