PREVIEW: Loughborough MCCU vs Lancashire

PREVIEW: Loughborough MCCU vs Lancashire

Lancashire youngster Chris Sanders is hoping to bite the hand that feeds him this weekend when he lines up against the county for Loughborough University.

The three-day clash, starting tomorrow, takes place on campus at the Haslegrave Ground, which also houses the ECB’s National Performance Centre.

Fast bowler Sanders from Bramhall has played for Lancashire since under 15s level and made five appearances for the seconds last year.

Just last month, he toured Dubai with the senior squad and took four wickets in a match against the UAE Blues.

Last weekend, he made his first-class debut in a three-day draw against Sussex at Hove and claimed the wickets of Luke Wells and Luke Wright. The former was bowled with an absolute beauty before the latter was trapped lbw.

Now he will be hoping to claim a few more scalps against his mates over the next three days.

“It will be a bit strange,” admitted the 19-year-old.

“But I don’t think there will be any love lost between the two, and it will be a hard-fought contest.

“Hopefully we can produce a result.”

Lancashire have named a strong squad for the trip to the East Midlands, where they last played the same opponents in May 2014.

Of the squad for this weekend, Jordan Clark, Steven Croft and Alex Davies all played in a pretty even draw. Toby Lester, now a pro with Lancs, played for the hosts in that fixture.

Joe Mennie will make his first appearance in county cricket having arrived from Australia, while fellow new signings Keaton Jennings and Graham Onions have also been named in a 13 by Head Coach Glen Chapple.

Jennings played in the two-day friendly against Glamorgan in Cardiff, which started yesterday, as is Haseeb Hameed, Croft, Davies, Rob Jones, Danny Lamb, Tom Bailey, Saqib Mahmood and Matthew Parkinson.

Captain Liam Livingstone and James Anderson are both unavailable having only just returned from New Zealand with England’s Test Match squad.

Shivnarine Chanderpaul, meanwhile, is due to arrive in the North West from Guyana ahead of next Friday’s Specsavers County Championship opener against Nottinghamshire at Emirates Old Trafford.

Lancashire squad v Loughborough MCCU: Bailey, Clark, Croft, Davies, Hameed, Jennings, Jones, Lamb, Mahmood, Mennie, Onions, Parkinson, Vilas.
